My husband and I are in the middle of a seven day internal cleanse right now. Today is day four and so far all is going well. I have had a few cravings in the evening, but nothing significant. For the first two days, we consumed nothing but raw fruit and vegetable broth, and for the next seven days, we have added brown rice and vegetables to the vegetable broth for a nice vegetable rice soup. Still only consuming raw fruits with the soup and lot’s and lot’s of water. Anyway, I wanted to share my recipe for vegetable broth, because it was delish and satisfying.

Cleansing Vegetable Broth

2 organic yellow onions

5 cloves organic garlic

4 tbsp organic extra virgin olive oil

1/2 yellow or orange bellpepper

2 cups chopped organic broccoli

1/2 organcic cauliflower, chopped

2 cups organic carrots, chopped

3 stalks organic celery, chopped

1 cup organic vegetable broth

7 cups purified water

1 tbsp salt

1/2 tbsp pepper

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1 tbsp ground cumin

1 teaspoon ground coriander

1 tbsp ground turmeric

1 teaspoon ground cardamom

In a soup pot heat olive oil, add garlic and onion and saute for approximately 4-5 minutes. Add remaining vegetables and saute for an additional five minutes. Add broth, water, and spices. Bring to a boil and reduce heat. Cook for two hours. Remove vegetables for broth fasting or leave in vegetables, add rice and cook for an additional 20 minutes for vegetable -rice soup.

  1. Are you reading any books about cleansing at all? Ant that you’d recommend. This has been on my mind and I have requested 2 from the library already. I’m going to try your broth.

I’ve only eaten raw all day, and I’m surprise I don’t have any cravings at all!

  2. Dr. Andrew Weil talks a lot about fasting. He describes three basic types of fasting: 1st is a lemon water fast. This type of fast is very intense and can be very difficult. Next he talks about the mono food fast, which is basically the one that I followed. We chose clear broth, but provides a lot of nutrients. because it doesn’t take much to digest, which is what you want when fasting. Andrew Weil also talks about the health benefits of brown rice. It helps remove sludge built up on the intestinal walls. Hope these books will be helpful for you.

  4. […] Today I am beginning another cleansing vegetable broth fast. I will be fasting on broth only for 3 days and then having vegetables with the broth for the next two. We have had lot’s of family gatherings lately, which means lot’s of bad food. And as always, when I eat bad, my stomach let’s me know all about it. Fasting is such a positive thing for the mind and the body. For me it signifies renewal. My body is clean inside, which helps renew my spirit, my resolve, my motivation. I will be spending some time today meditating and trying to stay away from the television as much as possible, which is hard because I can be a bit of a news junky sometimes. […]
